SUMMARY:Preparing for Peace
DESCRIPTION:Course InformationScheduleRegistration Cut-Off Cancellation PolicyCourse Information \nThis course focuses on developing insight on how the impacts of colonization and historic trauma influences individual beliefs around conflict and how to respond to it.  We will explore the Indigenous worldview and protocols\, and the contrast between Justice Worldview and Indigenous Worldview to develop a deeper understanding.  We will explore what conflict is\, how it emerges and transforms\, and how to analyze it for selecting an appropriate response.  Participants will create and adapt their own personal model of conflict resolution. This course is based on the premise that all parties in a dispute come with varying life experiences\, values\, beliefs\, attitudes\, conflict styles and resolution structures. \nSchedule \n\nJanuary 16 – 19\, 2023 – 8:30 am – 4:00 pm MST\n\nRegistration Cut-Off \nThe idea of preventing someone from registering for a course makes us all crazy\, so we won’t do that.  However\, we need to order printing a week before the course and make final decisions about the number of coaches to bring in\, and confirm the size of the classroom being rented.  Therefore\, we hope you will register as soon as possible (knowing we’ll be kind and easy to deal with if you have to cancel) and in exchange we will keep registration open until the day before the course.  We will shut off online course registration a week before\, however you can just give us a call at 780-460-7599 or send an email to admin@adrlearninginstitute.ca to register.  We will confirm your registration and make sure we have all the materials you will need when you arrive on the course date. \nCancellation Policy \nWe know life happens.  Sometimes schedules change or the universe interferes with your plans.  Please provide us with as much notice as possible so we can provide you with a full refund and hopefully fill your spot.  If the universe doesn’t let you know until five or less days before the course\, then we will give you a full credit towards another course which you\, or someone you choose to transfer it to\, can use within a year.  If your financial situation is such that you just really need the money to be put back into your account\, then give us a call and we will provide a refund less any admin costs incurred through Pay Pal or Invoicing. \n \n\nPreparing for Peace is part of the Bear Paw Peacemaking Certificate Program. Participants must register for the entire program.

SUMMARY:Restorative Justice and Circles
DESCRIPTION:Course InformationScheduleInstructorRegistration Cut-Off Cancellation PolicyCourse Information \nThis course focuses on the role of facilitating peacemaking circles and understanding the roots of restorative justice.  Participants will be introduced to Restorative Justice and to the roles and responsibilities of a circle keeper.  Information gathering\, working with elders\, becoming aware of various circle models\, and preparing the parties for participation will all be explored. \nSchedule \nDate: April 20 to 21\, 2022 \nTime: 9:00 – 4:00pm MST \nLocation: St. Albert Inn\, Alberta\, Canada \nWe will be following the AB Covid guidelines that are in effect at the time of course delivery.   We are expecting that each registered learner will have to provide proof of being fully vaccinated for Covid 19\, or provide proof of a negative result for a covid test taken within 72 hours of the start of each course.  Masks will have to be worn in the training room. \nInstructor \nInstructor: Paula Drouin – Paula was a member of the elite 12 person Canadian Review Panel to Review the UN’s Principles of Restorative Justice and make recommendations to the Solicitor of Canada on how to implement RJ throughout Canada. She was selected based on her work in the Edmonton Maximum Security Institution and in the Inner City with men on Parole and Probation.  In the 90’s she was one of the early members of what was then known as the Edmonton Victim/Offender Mediation Program\, currently known as the Mediation and Restorative Justice Centre. Paula was contracted to create the early training for volunteer mediators in the program and had also created a Restorative Justice Certificate Program for the Alberta Arbitration and Mediation Society.  She has taught Restorative Justice and Circle Training at Royal Roads University and provided introductory Restorative Justice training to mediators and judges in Bosnia. She has also assessed the re-integration of child soldiers in Northern Uganda using the UN’s Restorative Justices Program lens.  Paula was invited to be the Keynote speaker at one of the Alberta Restorative Justice Association Conference because of her grassroots development\, passion\, and experience in the field.  Paula will co-instruct the second day with an Elder to introduce participants to the traditional roots of using circles processes for sharing and healing. \nRegistration Cut-Off \nThe idea of preventing someone from registering for a course makes us all crazy\, so we won’t do that. We will shut off online course registration a week before\, however\, you can just give us a call at 780-460-7599 or send an email to admin@adrlearninginstitute.ca to register.

SUMMARY:Creating Restorative Workplaces
DESCRIPTION:Course InformationRegistration Cut-Off Cancellation PolicyCourse Information \nToday’s workplaces are more complex than ever.  Everyone is expected to be more with less and the tension that places on working relationship can be high.  Many changes to legislation that impacts policies within workplaces\, also places a burden on employers to respond more quickly and often more formally to complaints.  Formal process responses to complaints can damage relationships that are already strained. \nThis course will introduce participants to traditional methods of restoring relationships.  An Elder will be involved for a portion of the training to explain traditional indigenous ways of sharing and healing and introduce Circle process and safety. The training will then move into covering topics on how to transfer the depth of traditional circles into modern workplaces.  Topics will include assessing appropriateness of using a circle process; creating safety; preparing participants; facilitator role and responsibilities; effectively opening\, managing and closing the circle process; and customizing the restorative process to meet the situation and participants needs. \n3-Day Course\n\nWednesday\, July 22\, 2020\nThursday\, July 23\, 2020\nFriday\, July 24\, 2020\n\nRegistration Cut-Off \nThe idea of preventing someone from registering for a course makes us all crazy\, so we won’t do that.
