SUMMARY:Complaints to Closure
DESCRIPTION:Course InformationInstructorRegistration Cut-Off Cancellation PolicyCourse Information \nCOMPLAINTS TO CLOSURE – Assessing Harassment and Discrimination Complaints for Appropriate Resolution Options \nThis workshop will introduce participants to the complaint response\, assessment\, and resolution process selection tools ADR International Group created to work with over 200 harassment discrimination complainants over a two month period\, on behalf of the City of Edmonton.  Another goal of the workshop is to open a discussion on the underlying causes of harassment and discrimination complaints and possible ways to prevent complaints from becoming formal. \nThis course has been designed for:  Human Resource Staff\, Union Representatives and Labour Relations Officers.  As well as anyone else who wants to better understand the modern day complexities of fielding complaints of harassment and discrimination. People who want a simple tool for assessing the complaint\, the complainant needs\, and for determining the best options for moving towards resolution. \nSchedule: \nScheduled for May 28th\, 2019. \nObjectives: \n\nIntroduce participants to the Complainant and Complaint categories we created\nIntroduce participants to various resolution process options and the pros and cons of each\nDiscuss the variables to consider when determining the appropriate resolution process\nIdentify challenges organizations face when trying to address complaints.\nExplore options available when complainants wish to remain anonymous.\nConnect and dialogue with colleagues facing challenges of responding to harassment and discrimination complaints in this modern world of Respectful Workplace policies\, Anti-bullying policies\, new legislation on the obligation to reinstate injured workers\, and new mental health in the workplace legislation.\n\nInstructor \nInstructor: Paula Drouin – Founder and President of ADR International Group Inc.  Paula holds both National and International Mediator designations as well as a Master of Arts in Human Security and Peace Building.  She is an experienced mediator\, investigator\, arbitrator\, and workplace conflict assessor. Paula has been parachuting into government and non-government workplaces to assist with complaints and conflicts for over twenty-one years.  Besides being a highly sought after conflict resolution specialist\, she is also a respected course designer and facilitator who is simply motivated to create safe spaces for meaningful dialogue and learning. \nIn November 2017 her company was contracted to field all harassment and discrimination complaints on an interim basis for the City of Edmonton. (see Edmonton Journal article links below)  City management made the decision that all complaints would be handled externally and needed a company to step in overnight to cover all the calls while they worked on contracting a large firm to take the role over the long term.  ADR International Group Inc. conducted intact\, assessment and assigned files to various resolution options over several months. It was during this time that the tools being presented in this workshop were created to manage the large flow of complaints. \nEdmonton Journal Announcement Article Printed November 27th\, 2017 \nhttp://edmontonjournal.com/news/local-news/city-of-edmonton-promises-to-release-harassment-data \nWrap up article Printed January 11th\, 2018 \nhttp://edmontonjournal.com/news/local-news/city-hires-third-party-to-investigate-62-harassment-complaints \nRegistration Cut-Off \nFor this workshop we will shut off online course registration the day before at 6:00pm\, however you can just give us a call at 780-460-7599 or send an email to admin@adrlearninginstitute.ca to register the morning of\, and we will do our best to have any handouts available for you.   If you can’t make it\, feel free to send someone else in your place.
