Understanding Negotiation for the Mediator

This course was designed as the negotiation component of The Effective Mediator Certificate Program, as well as the ADR Practitioner Certificate Program. Trained mediators, whose training did not include negotiation, will benefit from this course, and are welcome to register without having to register for any of our other courses. Being an effective Mediator requires a deep understanding of Negotiation. This two-day course focuses on helping mediators understand mediation from the perspective of the parties they are mediating. It will focus on effective ways to prepare for a negotiation, participate in a negotiation to meet the needs of everyone involved, and writing up an agreement. The course is full of tips and practice to develop a deeper understanding of an interest-based negotiation model so you can facilitate others through their negotiation. Successful completion of the Art of Conflict Resolution Certificate Program unless you are already a trained mediator. This course will be a combination of evenings, weekends, with a couple of weekday sessions required, as well as asynchronous course work. Since participants come from various walks of life and have differing work and family demands, Zoom session times, within the course time frame, will be negotiated between the participants and instructional team. The idea of preventing someone from registering for a course makes us all crazy, so we won’t do that. However, we need to order printing a week before the course and make final decisions about the number of coaches to bring in, and confirm the size of the classroom being rented. Therefore, we hope you will register as soon as possible (knowing we’ll be kind and easy to deal with if you have to cancel) and in exchange, we will keep registration open until the day before the course. We will shut off online course registration a week before, however you can just give us a call at 780-460-7599 or send an email to admin@adrlearninginstitute.ca to register. We will confirm your registration and make sure we have all the materials you will need when you arrive on the course date. We know life happens. Sometimes schedules change or the universe interferes with your plans. Please provide us with as much notice as possible so we can provide you with a full refund and hopefully fill your spot. If the universe doesn’t let you know until five or less days before the course, then we will give you a full credit towards another course which you, or someone you choose to transfer it to, can use within a year. If your financial situation is such that you just really need the money to be put back into your account, then give us a call and we will provide a refund less any admin costs incurred through Pay Pal or Invoicing.
